An interesting comparison to this are the somewhat negative comments that you can read on TripAdvisor, for example at TripAdvisor Reviews of Perillo Tours . You will find both Perillo Tours Reviews, and Perillo Tours Complaints. For numeric references used below, see this guide.

Perillo receives generally very good reviews from people who book hotels and specific destinations or activities from them. See TripAdvisor hotels through Perillo Tours Reviews .

The interesting thing in evaluating reviews is that you might want to compare the number of 4- and 5-star ratings to the 1-, 2- and 3-star ratings. For example, in the previous user reviews of the Villa de Medici, there are 406 reviews in TripAdvisor, and of those 83 are 3-star or lower. This is approximately 20%.

So if you look at it simply mathematically, there is a 1 out of 5 chance that you will not be highly satisfied with this. Compare this to attending Billy Elliot in London, where the same calculation reveals a dissatisfaction rate of perhaps 1 out of 10. In other words, people who went to Billy Elliot were twice as happy as people who stayed at the Villa de Medici.
Our observation, after looking at hundreds of Perillo Tours reviews on TripAdvisor tours to Italy, is that if you see a nice curved distribution with most of the reviews being in 5, it is an average distribution of a very good tour.

TripAdvisor usually reviews hotels and restaurants where they can participate in advertising or booking. Ok, actually we can find a few Perillo Tours Reviews and Perillo Tours Complaints:
- “Tour was wonderful and the tour guide, Nello was amazing. The food was phenomenal, the hotels were centrally located and were beautiful, the other tour members were friendly and I had a great time.” (1)
- “We booked a tour for 9 days. Florence, Rome, Venice. The tours packed too much in one day. One morning tour actually lasted until 7:30 PM. This was supposed to be a relaxing vacation and actually became a 9-day marathon. We booked an extra two extra days and they were the most fun because on those days we just did what we wanted the whole time. In the final analysis, we felt the trip was expensive.” (1)
But there are other Perillo Tours Reviews and Complaints for Italy here and there:
- I went with Perillo and had a different experience. But I also did my homework ahead of time. I was given a list of all the hotels and addresses, I looked them up online first so I knew what to expect. We never waited in line for anything, Rooms/hotels were great, We had breakfast, and dinner nightly. Soft drinks, water and wine were available everyday on the bus, we were responsible for lunches but that was no problem. We always had tour guides for all major cities, Our buses were very nice, 2 seats per person (for at least 1/2 of the bus). (7)
- I suppose my comment is just hearsay and doesn’t count, but fwiw my neighbors have done two Perillo tours and loved them. My neighbors are “tour” people. (She doesn’t believe in computers and he doesn’t want to bother with research.) (7)
- the key is knowing how to read the brochure to see what you are really getting – and checking the hotels in advance. (7)
- This was absolutely the worse trip that we have ever taken. The meals were really bad – like the breakfast in every hotel in the morning was poor. Your only choices for dinner every night were fish, chicken, or calamari), en every city!. There was a 10 hour bus ride that they don’t tell you about and the next day a long train ride — more than 6 hrs. The hotel was nice in Sorrento, but it was not clean. (1)

My husband and I used Perillo Tours – Perillo’s Italy vacations to plan our honeymoon in Italy. This was not a tour but custom planned trip for 2 weeks. They (Emanuela) did a great job. She picked the perfect places for us to stay in and scheduled all our drivers who were great! I don’t know about the pre-planned tours but if you want a custom one you should definitely use Perillo Tours. The were also a bit cheaper than other travel agents had quoted us. We went from Venice to Tuscany (Sorrento) to the Amalfi Coast to Sicily and then Rome.
Thanks a lot for your comments. There is no question that a custom escorted tour to Italy is the best, but usually expensive. I once paid $400 for a private walking tour of Florence. It was absolutely fabulous but I couldn’t do that every day! Of course, you never know if your guide is going to be good. I had a strange one at the Forum in Rome!
Have just completed my italy tour from july 24 to aug 6 .this tour was excellent , the tour guide Marco Massari is very good patient, jolly and a very informative guide. He had a very big obstacle during the tour a person came who was wheel chair bound with her very small granddaughter to push her through those cobble stone streets .My fellow travelers and I took turns pushing this ungrateful person around,to top this off another traveler decided she needed to be pushed around in a wheel chair also, both of the persons were of oversized weight we had men with heart conditions ,ms, arthritis, knee replacements and other conditions help our guide .This effected our tours and totally exhausted some of us who pushed these two ungrateful person around divas what as ________shame.they constantly complain never thinking about what they were doing to others shame shame shame .
Thanks for your comments. This is a very good review for Perillo Tours Reviews. We have been on many tours, and there are usually one or two people who require extra attention. If someone goes on their first escorted tour to Europe or Italy and does not realize that out of maybe 30 people, there is going to be a problem of some sort, then please be warned. Usually you can work your way around it! Good job!
The Rick Steves company has a very good article on this subject at https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/trip-planning/comparing-tours . In general, you have to compare the number of cities or sights visited to the number of days, and look at the comments. Search Google for something like “Europe bus tours too fast”. Speaking in generalizations and not trying to knock anyone, I think you will find that the one with the most complaints in this regard is Globus, then Perillo and Trafalgar, and the lowerst (best) is Road Scholar. But it really depends on two things. The more you pack in and the cheaper you pay, you will generally get lower end hotels and move faster. The more cities you go to, the more you will be on long bus rides. If you check our charts, you will see some comments to this effect, where we wonder how they can do so many things in so short a time. The only way you can avoid this is to skip a day tour or two to take some time off, and many people are not willing to do this.
In addition, if you set your expectations right, you will be happier. If you realize that you are going to go on a week-long or more bus ride, bring some stuff to do or read on the bus, and realize it is the price for being able to get so many places, and not complain about it, you will be a lot happier if you do not fret or complain all the time.
I just did 5 days in Paris on the hottest days ever recorded. In terms of heat, it was hellish. But that was ok, we were ready for it, had lots of water, and rested in the cool when we could!
Other specific things you can search for in Google are “Perillo good hotels” or “Perillo bad hotels” to get some comparisons. Obviously you saw the comment just above this, where Janet said she thought the hotels were good! I have found that no matter where you go, someone is going to complain. Again, it is a matter of expectations and generally on these tours you are going to get what you pay for.
We are considering a Perillo tour, all the negative reviews are scaring me. Can you tell me more about the hotels, meals and time spent on buses? Thank you!
My husband an just returned from a Perillo tour of Rome and Tuscany. It was absolutely fabulous! The hotels were very nice and the service was above any level of expectation. They were very attentive and knowledgeable. We appreciated not having to wait in lines for the museums we visited. They also allotted time for us to wander independently. I will definitely recommend them and use them in the future!
Next time you might try try Road Scholar or one of the other companies here in Italy Tour Reviews. Road Scholar has fabulous customer service. We’ve been to China, Southeast Asia and Scotland with them. We are going to try a few trips in the U.S.
Unfortunately I am not able to comment on how the tour or travel arrangements through Perillo rate because after numerous attempts and several phone calls from 1 year prior to my trip to Italy through 5 months prior to the trip, Perillo never responded with information as promised. I talked with 2 different agents and emailed several times. I was told by agents that they didn’t have all the hotels they were going to use loaded into the system yet so couldn’t help me. I wanted to design my own trip and use Perillo hotel, train and car reservations. They never responded so I researched and did it all myself. I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service. They’ve lost my business.
